Rare 18th Century ‘Le Couche de la Mariee’ Antique French Print by Pierre Antoine Baudouin, bought at a brocante in a pretty silvered frame behind glass. This beautiful antique 18th century engraving is an original hand tinted etching and engraving made by Jean-Baptiste Blaise Simonet (1742-1817) after the painting of Pierre-Antoine Baudouin (1723-1769). It is The Bedtime of the Bride (Le coucher de la mariée) Pierre-Antoine Baudouin {1723-1769} was a French painter working in the style of his father-in-law, François Boucher. He was elected a member of the French Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.

This engraving was done by Jean Michel Moreau le Jeune {French, 1741–1814.} I bought this at market, it’s rare to find a hand colored version of this engraving, most are monotone. The dealer married this print to a beautiful antique silvered frame, as you can see by the back, at one time it was a standing frame. No longer able to stand, it has a wire hanger. It suits the print beautifully, and even though over the centuries the very bottom of this rare print was cut, it displays beautifully. Priced accordingly.
