French Pillivuyt Trompe L’oeil Porcelain Pheasant in a Crust Pâté Terrine made by Pillivuyt. Pillivuyt produced a variety of porcelain terrines inspired by the hunt and for serving game pies or pâté. This type terrine was originally designed and made for royalty and nobility in the eighteenth century as an ingenious solution for pastry-less tarts and pies during France’s flour shortage.
This is a beautiful piece, but it is not perfect. At one time the inside rim was chipped on both sides. Never the less I bought it, because I loved it – and hope you will too. Priced accordingly, this is an early one and you can’t see the “meant to be” rim when it’s closed. : )
