Early Antique Blue and White Floral Scenery Plate

$225.00

Availability: 1 in stock

Early Antique 1830 Blue and White Floral Scenery Plate, with a lovely scalloped rim, printed in a blue darker than was used later. This is a quality early 19th century plate, superior to those produced later in this design. Made by Ralph Hall of Swan Bank Works, Tunstall, Staffordshire, England, who was in business from 1822 to 1849. This scenic plate is a finely engraved design, and there are other versions of this scene made by other English potters such as Minton and other Staffordshire potters.

The pattern features beautiful exotic flowers and foliage cascading into the center of the plate. The very thing beloved in the Romantic Era, the central scene features a chalet, lots of trees, flowers and churches in the distance. This plate was produced mostly in black, the blue ones like this are more rare to find. There is aging, and two chips on the rim as shown. For a plate of almost 200 years old this is considered good antique condition.  Unmarked.
