Antique Nativity Sheep, bought in Europe, these late 19th century French Putz Sheep are my weakness. Anywhere and everywhere, if I see sheep, I buy them! {I confess very few make it to the shop} But my flock is getting a little out of hand, so I’m happy to share a few for this season with you.
Little sheep like this were, at the time they were made, quite beloved to add to the nativity scene, a must for almost every Christian French family. Not perfect, she has wear to her paint and breaks {glued long ago} in two legs, she stands solidly. She was most likely “admired” when nanny wasn’t looking. Small in size, huge in history, memories of a child’s wonder of Christmas. Use her for your own creche scene, or display on a stack of holiday books or on your mantel.
