Antique Marie Antoinette Jewelry or Document Box, with a beautiful glass portrait top with a print of Marie Antoinette with a pink rose, originally painted by Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun, the official artist of the Versailles court. The wood box is quite ornate, the details have a gilded finish. The glass top has a beautiful black with a gilded frame for the print, the top is perfectly black, some of the photos show my reflection. Inside, the box bottom is covered in faded brown velvet, with French pink ribbon trim which echos the pink rose on the cover. The lid is covered in gilded paper.
Boxes like this were used to keep jewelry, perhaps, but more often than not they were used to store letters that were close to the heart. In very good antique condition, it is one of the prettiest ones I have seen. Perfect to keep your own love letters and cards safe, whether from a special someone or your little people.
