Simple Antique French Country Pottery Pitcher, made in a local Provencal pottery, with a golden caramel and brown glaze. Pitchers like this were made for the local community, by the village potter long ago. A staple in country French kitchens, they served a multitude of purposes, from serving milk at the table to keeping left over gray or duck fat in the cellar.
The bottom is not glazed, so that it could be buried in the earth to keep cool in the cellar in summers. Not as refined as its city cousins, this pottery pitcher has all the hand made charm and unique qualities we love. There are glaze drips, uneven bits of clay, and more. All the things that make this a one of a kind French find!
