Antique French Chromolithograph Advertising Label – this label dates to the late 1800’s, early 1900’s. Unused, it is part of an old printing company’s stock. Labels like this were applied to all sorts of products, the printer had ‘blanks’ like this, and together with a smaller label with the products name on it, these would be applied to all sorts of products. The chromolithograph process produced prints unlike any other printing process, even today. The colors are saturated and rich.
This label shows a beautiful young woman in a flowing white gown lifting a blanket from a sweet baby beside a river. The colors are stunning! Not sure if this is a reference to the Biblical story of Moses being discovered by Pharaoh’s daughter. The image has areas of gilt detailing on the woman’s gown and the baby’s blanket. The colors are luminous green, pink, brown and gold on a cream background. In good antique condition for labels over 100 years old, there may be slight edge wear. A gorgeous addition to your collection, perfect to frame, or to paste on a favorite journal or create your own art work.
