Wonderful Antique Silverware Flatware Chest with Keys and Drawer, bought at market recently. What a great find, this domed wood box has a top compartment that lifts out like a silver caddy, lined in plush wine colored velvet with a divider to hold silver. Underneath, a larger unlined compartment, to store those silver pieces that come in their own box.
Underneath, a velvet lined drawer holds more silver. Both compartments have a key, I believe the top key is a replacement made by the family when the original key was lost. Beautiful burled wood with string inlay in light and dark colors. An absolute rare to find addition to your butler’s pantry, or to display near your tea table to hold your most precious sterling tea spoons and tea time forks and serving silver pieces. There is aging and patina, this box has been used and loved by generations in a family, with or without a butler.
