19th Century French Faience Preserving Pot

Antique 19th Century French Faience Preserving Pot used for preserving and storing anchovies and sardines long ago. This stunning off-white pot has similarities to the traditional confit pots, except it is fully glazed inside and down the sides, it wasn’t intended to be buried.

The anchovy and sardine fishery was {and still is} the most important fishing industry in most of France. This antique cream-white color pot has gorgeous patina, aging, wear and chips as shown, with 2 Handles. Condition and wear consistent with age and use, this has such character and personality!
