Traditional 'Grès' stoneware storage jar with handles, and thick heavy sides which helped keep the contents cool. Used for food storage in the Brittany area of France. This has a light colored glaze- these pots were glazed by hand - with a lustrous shine. There is some wear and a small chip to the very bottom of the pot.
Made to store preserved tomatoes, cornichons, olives and other food items in the cellar. Display in your French Country home or kitchen, a gorgeous addition to your collection of 19th century collectable pottery faience from France. I use one for holding my silver forks and spoons on the sideboard in the kitchen. This is for the middle sized pot in the last photo.
