Exquisite Early Antique Staffordshire Children with Large Sheep, perhaps modeled on Queen Victoria's children. Finely modeled and decorated by hand, the children are wearing royal Victorian clothing- he: a kilt, sporran and plumed hat; she: a floral skirt, deep blue jacket and feathered hat.
The figures are posed with oversized and quite humorous sheep that have pottery "wool" coats. The sheep have such a personality!! Rare to find in these figures, the painter was quite accomplished. Such a delightful pair! I love these, they are amongst the best English figures I've found, and in wonderful condition. They date to the earlier part of the 19th century, 1840. These have deep, glorious colors, and the usual pottery factory irregularities we love about the earlier pieces.
