Antique Wood Inlaid Tea Caddy with two compartments for precious tea, made by hand in the early 1800’s. English boxes like this were to keep the very expensive loose tea safe and dry, and in a place where only the lady of the house had access to it.
Beautiful wood, with inlay design on the two inside compartment boxes for black and green tea, and banding. The boxes are slightly different, but fit exactly, they were hand made by a woodworking artist long ago. Beautiful warm patina of time, as shown. A sterling addition to your collection, or the beginning of one, this very decorative caddy is a delight.
