A rare treat to find, this 19th century Flow Blue Plate features a horse rider and bull in an arena, an unusual subject, no? This deep blue plate was made in Staffordshire, England. It features a central design of the horse rider and bull, being cheered on by a large crowd. A "gaucho" or cowhand scrambles up the fence to get away from the bull in action.
Around the scalloped edge there are smaller cameos of costumed dancing people, and horsemen training horses. A heavy ironstone plate, with the cobalt color we love. Marked on the back. In exceptional condition for its age, from the estate of a collector who kept his antique pottery very carefully.
