Rare to find antique Neptune and Mermaid Oyster Plate, with five wells in the shape of oysters. This is such a decorative plate, with Neptune or Poseidon's face on one side, and four graceful mermaids or sea- nymphs surrounding him. The center is a gilt touched shell, the background color is cream white.
A favorite of collector's, the wells have the slightest hint of soft pink and hand applied gilt detailing. Unmarked, there is craquelure befitting a plate of this age, this is a find! Sure to become the star of your collection. Still loves oysters at the table for entertaining, or display with your other plates.
