Gorgeous Antique Prattware Sea Shell Ale Jug with the original pewter lid, made by the Pratt pottery between 1847 - 1860. The brothers Felix Pratt and Richard Pratt founded the pottery, it became an important manufacturer of fine earthenware and polychrome transfer printed pieces used for food, drink, pharmaceutical products and toiletries. Especially beloved, the Pratt Jugs, or pitchers in the shell design are avidly collected.
This decorative pitcher is especially rare to find with the original pewter top with pottery detailing. The underglaze multi-colored decoration of coral, sea weed and shells is especially crisp, clear and stunning. Exquisite rich colors of butterscotch, browns, coral, red, green, teal, white, purple and periwinkle blue.
