Exquisite, this Antique Opaline Glass Vase with an intricate painted classical cameo style design in enamel is an outstanding example of the artistic enameled glass that was produced by Harrach during the late 19th century. Beautifully decorative, it was painted in the 1870's with great skill, in a rare to find design and shape. Harrach decorated a limited number of glass vases in Renaissance Revival style, with carefully painted depictions emulating cameos with white enamel applied in very thin layers, similar to pate-sur-pate on porcelain.
Look at the detail, the gowns are incredible...the one on the left has a design of tiny little dots - divine! The background is a stunning soft brown-taupe, this is a high end luxury version of its kind, with gilt details on the foot and neck. There is some wear on the gilt, and one very small nick under the foot, it doesn't detract from this museum quality vase. Impressive for your collection.
