Exceptional quality 19th century Salt Glazed Stoneware Pitcher made by William Brownfield between 1861 - 1864 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, with a beautiful decorative design of a large bundle of wheat, large leaves and flowers. The detail is incredible! Such an exquisite stoneware jug and extremely functional as well as astoundingly decorative.

Pitchers or jugs like this would have been in use daily for beer or cider. However, this example, which is elaborately and crisply modeled, would have been comparatively expensive and was probably intended largely for show, or, at most, for use on special occasions. This one has a small chip on the foot, collectors consider this in very good condition for its age. Jugs like this by Brownfield are on permanent display at the V & A Museum in London.

  • Measures 7-7/8" h x 5-1/2" x 4-1/2".
