Decorate your settee or bed with this Antique French Aubusson Pillow Verdure Tapestry Cushion. Such a rare and exciting find! Aside from the fact that this antique textile is beautiful, it was the only one I have ever seen with a young man using a spade, while his lovely female companion picks flowers to put in her basket. Or are they gardening together? Woven by hand of wool, with naturally dyed colors, embellished with the classic and elegant design elements of foliage, roses, and scrolls of the era.
I was told this tapestry was made in the late 1700's, so 18th century, there is evidence confirming its age, with some loose threads, areas of general wear and re-weaving & restoration. Backed in silk, and edged with gold bullion metallic trim, and an edge of tassels. Plushly filled with a down pillow, this decorative wonder is in beautiful condition for its age, to be enjoyed and used in your elegant French Country home. This museum worthy pillow deserves to be treated with care. Colors are neutral with blue, green and soft red-pinks.
- Measures 21" x21" with 1-1/2" trim.
