Antique heavy stoneware confit jar from the Savoie region of France. A beautiful example of the pottery from the region, it has thick heavy sides which helped keep the contents cool. Hand glazed in a spattered mocha design, it has amazing patina as you can see. Little pops of glaze reveal the lime in the clay, typical wear to a 100+ year old functional pot.
Traditionally used for food storage in the large and small kitchens in France. Made to store preserved lemons or olives and other food items in the cellar. A rare to find large decorative addition to display in your French Country home or kitchen. This gem has decades of life left and makes for a beautiful addition to any pottery collection.
