Lovely and very decorative Antique Ironstone Shell Serving Dish, made in the first half of the 1800's T & R BOOTE of Burslem, England, who began the pottery in 1842. This would have been used to serve relishes and pickles at the table. The design is beautiful, with the elongated scalloped shell and a ring at the top holding leaves.
This is such a rare to find treasure for your collection. These dishes are referred to as "pickle" servers by the English, without refrigeration the strong tasting "pickle" was meant to cover up any strange taste of food past their prime. It is in very good condition without chips, it only has a slight discoloration to cream on the footed bottom as shown, usually I only find these with cracks and chips.
