Exceptional large 19th century French Country Bisque Hen on a basket weave nest with all the country charm and personality you could wish for! Completely hand painted, the antique basket is glazed on the outside and the inside, the hen is not, a decorative and beautiful contrast. It is so rare to find a sitting hen like this of this age with everything intact, usually the feathers or the beak or both are broken, she is in such wonderful condition!
Used long ago as a beautiful way to serve eggs at the table, this is such a rare to find piece with fine quality details. The basket is painted an earthy straw color with a nicely defined weave. The chicken is white with red headdress, she has remnants of white paint on her feathers. She is a fabulous addition to your collection, or the sterling beginning of one. These were made in France, and also in Staffordshire, England. Display her with joy!
