Delicate and oh so feminine Antique Celluloid Sewing Basket, or Box, with a most impressive cover featuring to Love Birds, are they doves? Such a treasured find, the basket is woven of strips of celluloid, and are held apart with little "splints" around the sides.
This is so lightweight, it's like a feather. Perhaps it was meant to hold embroidery silks, or a pair of gilded scissors, a thimble, and a few spools of silk thread for "lady-like" sewing. It is definitely too delicate to have been used by a young girl. In good condition, after all this time it's missing the tip of one or two tiny splints, please enlarge the photos. It isn't very noticeable, and this is a very sweet piece to add to your collection of French, English and American sewing boxes.
