Antique French Theodore Haviland Oyster Plate has an elegant clean design, it was made especially for S.& G. Gump, a luxury emporium in San Francisco. This plate is always a great favorite with collectors, it has an off white background which allows the hand painted decorative design in gold and green show up beautifully. There are five wells around the central condiment well, enhanced with gilt sponged detail.
We have three, only one is marked on the back with the Theodore Haviland manufacturer mark for 1903, and S. & G. Gump Co. San Francisco, the others are marked for Gump. Slight usage wear of the gilt here and there, the foot on the bottom of the one marked T.Haviland has a chip, from that time when the new downstairs girl placed the plate on the table in front of her mistress too heavy handed. Elegant and sure to be a treasure and the star of your antique oyster server plates. A fine heirloom addition to your collection, to display with joy & pride.
