Beautiful Antique French Bronze Dore Architectural Fragment from a Maison de Maitre. Exquisite patina, superb craftsmanship, this has it all. This embellishment features alluring flowers, with a book opened on top, referencing Andre Vesale, considered the greatest anatomist of the Renaissance, with a snake on the top.

Under Louis XIV ébénistes introduced gilded bronze decorative elements to further enhance their exceptional works of art - doors and furniture. Made by special fondeurs-ciseleurs, who worked the metals before they were gilded. Called ormolu in the 18th century, for applying finely ground, high-karat gold to a bronze object. {The French refer to this technique as bronze dore.} This piece, is now a slightly quirky but oh so elegant souvenir. Display this on your desk as an objet d' art, use as a presse papier, or simply love it!
