As Seen in Victorian Homes Magazine
Dating to the 1870's, this luxury tape measure was intricately carved from Coquille nut or “vegetable ivory,” which is actually the fruit of a Brazilian palm tree. Part of a lady's sewing basket, the fancy barrel has been pierced and hand carved in design, the tape winder contains a Stanhope, although I think it's missing the microphone. Polished to a high luster, little sewing luxuries like this were a beloved gift from a suitor or husband, perhaps from Papa.
The pink tape measure was hand inked, it is in exceptional condition, which is very rare to find! What a charming decorative addition to your collection of sewing antiques. Measures .
