Beautiful decorative Paisley Throw or Shawl, with fringe on two sides. Made in Europe in the earlier part of the 1900's, shawls like this were used in several ways, both in the home and as a piece of clothing. This is a medium to heavier weight throw, of good substance and reversible. One side features glorious colors of Wine Red, Black and Cream,  the other side is reversed {which you want to see with these older woven textiles}and equally lovely.

The pattern is a traditional classic Kashmir array of swirling scrolls, florals, and foliate designs, absolutely gorgeous and quite detailed. These Paisley textiles were used in Europe to dress a table, or a piano in the late 1800's to early 1900's, to hang behind a wall hung coatrack, or worn by those who donned traditional folkloric costumes daily or on special days as the wearing of winter coats was not possible over this type of attire.

Good condition, there are a few areas of thinning as shown {does not go all the way through} and two small holes, one side has faded where the sun hit it. To be expected for a textile used by generations in a family home, in as found condition. You could mend the small areas of loss, but the pattern is quite busy and they are difficult to see. Such a lovely throw for a special chair by your fire, to accent a small table for autumn, or to fold at the foot of your French antique bed.

  • Measures 78" x 56" not including the 2" fringes.
