As seen in Victorian Homes Magazine

Exceptional Antique Shellwork Box, in wonderful condition, this 19th century French bon-bon decorative box was made in the shape of a tiny little Dresser. Designed as a bon-bon box from a luxury candy store {at the seaside in France} and intended for later use as dollhouse furnishing or sewing box. The boxes in the shape of miniature furniture were produced in much smaller quantities, this is what makes them more collectable and rare to find.

Made with a heavy card stock foundation that is decorated with artistic papers, mirrors, and miniature seashells to simulate carving. The "diamond" shape is echoed in the pointed front. A variety of shells were used to create the artwork, it's rare to find these collectable boxes with all the shells intact. Covered with yellow marbled paper, this has aged and split a little here and there. Fantastic detailed design, the lid lifts for storage, lined in aqua green. A fabulous addition to your collection of antique candy containers, shell antiques and sailor's valentines.

  • Measures 4-1/2" x 3-3/8" x 6-3/4"h.
