Antique Pot de Confit, from France, in a gorgeous natural unglazed clay with glazed interior. Pots de confit were used primarily in France for the preservation of meats such as duck or goose for dishes such as cassoulet or foie gras. The outside, or bottom halves were left unglazed, so that the pots could be half buried in the ground to keep the contents cool. Chips and imperfections help authenticate these pots as they were utilitarian type pieces.
Of all the confit pots, those having no outside glaze are the most difficult to obtain. This pot has handles on each side, and has wonderful natural coloration, a delightful decorative piece to display in your kitchen, or anywhere where you want a touch of France. Use this inside or outside. A fantastic addition to your collection.
