RARE. For you if you collect Ironstone and have discerning taste, this large antique European Ironstone Pedestal Cake Plate will just about make your collection celebrate! Found on our last European buying trip, I have to share that I was beyond giddy to find not just this one, but a few. This is the last one.
Collectors of ironstone will know, pedestal cake plates rarely survived the wars in Europe, they are one of the least available ironstone antique pieces to add to any collection. This beauty was made in The Netherlands by Societe Ceramique in Maestricht, Holland between 1880-1890. Impressive in size, this has the craquelure in the glaze that you want to see, the finish is "buttered" as our French friends say, there are some areas of darkening. What stories this piece could tell!
Highly possible that this plateau was used in a boulangerie or a fromagerie for display due to the size. Will be a stunning addition to your collection, the height of luxury.
- Measures 13~1/4" in diameter x 4" h.
