Magnificent Antique Sterling Silver Case, with a stunning overal pattern of leaves, and a circular monogram on a cartouche of C E M. Decorated with very finely engraved scrolling foliage on a stippled background, which is most attractive. Absolutely gorgeous, a timeless design, this fabulous case opens via a double latch to reveal a gold interior. Marked inside with the anchor symbol for Birmingham, England, Makers mark for Cornelius Saunders & Francis Shepard, who started their silver company in 1890, this case has the year mark for 1896. {eventually, this company made the wedding bracelet worn by Princess Diana on her wedding day} The Lion Passant indicates Sterling Silver.

Magnificent and very collectible 19th century case, there is a small folded piece of paper inside, two elastics to hold either small papers and a tiny pen or pencil, or perhaps this was a cigarette case {cigarettes were quite small in the late 19th century.} The case snaps audibly and tightly into place. An exceptional luxury addition to your collection of French and Continental Silver objet de'art, display with all your treasures. Measures: 2~1/16" x 3~1/4" x 9/16".
