The classic story of Joan Of Arc is beautifully told in French, and with the gorgeous illustrations by famed acedemic painter Boutet de Monvel on each page. De Monvel studied at the Ecole Nationale Suprieure des Beaux-Artsin in Paris, this book is considered his masterpiece. His skill at capturing children made him a popular and well paid portraitist of the children of French nobiblity.
The watercolors for this book were reproduced in zincotype, a new photoengraving process in the late 1800's using etching in combination with color ink. This book earned de Monvel great success, leading to him being considered as one of the major artists of his time and bringing him international recognition
