Delightful and collectable Antique Keller and Guérin Faience Earthenware Story Plate Les Notables de Cornebourg. This pottery plate has a black & white transfer printed illustration surrounded by a green ivy and floral border. Story plates, or "Assiettes Parlantes" {talking plates} were quite popular and produced by many fine faience houses in the mid to late 1800's.

In 1728 Jacques Chambrette established the first earthenware factory in Lorraine in Lunéville. The factory was awarded the status of Manufacture Royale de Fayence by the Ducs of Larraine in 1749. From 1812, and during the following century, Lunéville was the seat of "Keller and Guérin" {Société KG}

This plate shows a "notable" riding a horse, wearing a fashionable high hat, shaking the hand of a peasant farmer on his lands. As you can see, this plate has plenty of craquelure and chips on the edge, they have been there for almost 100 years, it appears. They do not bother me, but please only purchase this piece if you love this patina of age. Great to display in a gentleman's library, office or dressing room, added to your collection of antique talking plates, or equine pieces. Measures 7".
