Decorative and rare to find "Assiette Parlante" {talking plate} featuring national heroine and Saint Jeanne d'Arc, produced in 1888 by Gien. Situated on the site of an old convent in Minimes, France, Gien produced faience of the highest quality. From a collector's estate, the colors of the transfer in black and the bright blue orante transfer printed border make this especially collectable.

This figural cabinet plate portrays the final moments of La Puchelle d"Orleans {The Maid of Orleans} as she was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431 at 19, after being found guilty on a variety of charges by the pro English Bishop of Beauvais for her part in The 100 Years War.

The bright Blue border is especially beautiful, with flags, Jean's shield and sword, as well as angels and floral motifs. A fabulous addition to your collection of French faience story plates, Joan of Arc memorabilia, and a piece of French history. There is aging as shown, and a small hole where this plate was hung with a nail on the walls of the country French home. Marked on the back. Measures 8~1/8".
