Decorative and highly collectible early 19th century Blue Transferware Sauce Tureen, with original underplate and ladle. Produced by Davenport, an English pottery who began production in 1793 and produced high quality transfer printed ware, earthenware, porcelain and glass at Longport, England until 1887.
This beautiful estate set displays the design characteristics of the aesthetic movement, the asymmetrical botanical patterns, birds, flowers, ribbons and geometric patterns. Lovely blue color, the underplate, lid and ladle each have a different bird on them. Marked on the back, also several indented marks on the side of the footed tureen. An elegant addition to your luxury collection of transferware, blue and white, and bird pieces, it was made between 1850 ~1870.
The background color is cream, the heavy underplate and the ladle have darkened a bit as shown, the tureen has one under the rim chip. Considered in good antique condition for a usefull object 165 years old. Measures: Underplate:8~1/4" x 6~1/8"; Tureen:8~1/2" x 5~1/4" x 5".
