Decorative Hotel Silver Food Serving Bowl and Lid, made by Reed and Barton for the luxury Ocean Line American Export with their ship flag logo on the side. The Export Steamship Corporationwas organized in began operating cargo services to the Mediterranean from New York in 1919.
The word "American" was added in the 1920s to emphasize its ties to the U.S. In 1931, they placed in service four passenger luxury liners, Excalibur, Excambion, Exeter and Exochorda, known as the "Four Aces". American Export Lines was the biggest US flag steam ship between the US East Coast and the Mediterranean from 1919 to 1970.
This collectible gem dates to 1937, marked with the year mark of Reed & Barton inside the cover and the bottom of the underplate.
