Beautiful Victorian Silver Plated Bride's Basket with an elegant footed shape, and lovely details. This was made by the Middletown Plate Co. of Middletown, CT in 1888. Bride's Baskets were extremely popular in the 1880's when they were often given as a luxury wedding gift. The happy couple then used the basket to present cakes, candy or fruits while entertaining, as a centerpiece or displayed on the sideboard for holiday celebrations with friends and family. {They went out of favor as "the gift" in 1904-1905.}

This basket's bowl has a gorgeous etched design of flowers, leaves and ferns, arranged in ornate epergnes {Victorian centerpiece with several vases used in the center of the table}.  The swing handle stands up by itself, it has beadwork and curved details.

A lovely addition to your heirloom collection of silver, Victorian antiques for your table, perfect to present sweets for tea. I love mine in the guestroom filled with soaps and rolled up pristine white guest towels too! In good antique condition, there is a little wear, shiny and bright and gorgeous for a useful antique of over 120 years old. Marked on the bottom, design No.1920, Middletown. Measures: 9~1/2"  5"h, Handle 6~1/2".
