Exceptional and quite Large 19th Century Handled Bride's Basket with a beautiful design of Berried Ivy around the rim and foot, the handle has a lovely design of Grapes and Grape Leaves. Made in the 1800's by Rogers Bros. Manufacturing Co. which began making luxury American sterling & plated silver in 1853. This large basket has everything Rogers Bros. is famous for, lovely fluted shape, applied leaf and berry work, meticulous pieced reticulated basket, and working swing handle that does stand up on its own.
The craftmanship is exquisite, all the details including the gadrooned center bowl are beautiful. There is some wear to the center of the bowl, this doesn't bother me but please only purchase this basket if it doesn't bother you either. This basket is over 100 years old and was loved and used, most likely as a centerpiece on the table or sideboard filled with fruits and flowers, or to serve cake at grand occasions and celebrations. The highly reflective nature of the gadrooned center makes the wear difficult to see.
This superb basket makes a fabulous addition to your Victorian or Silver collection, to display as a heirloom accent in your home and of course to serve your most delicious cakes and desserts for entertaining, or filled with fruit or flowers as a centerpiece for your most beautiful tables. Measures 12~3/4" x 10~1/8" x 4" h 11" to top of handle.
