Exceptional Antique Italian Point de Venise Needle Lace Boudoir Pillow, so unusual and rare to find. The center features two young friends, with the word "Society" over them - this was used to refer to close friendship. Made entirely by hand, embroidered by an exceptionally skilled needlewoman, with point de venise, cutwork, reticella, filet lace, satin stitching and an astounding array of patterns embroidered with silk, ending with filet scalloped lace trim.
The stitching is so tiny, and absolutely heart wrenchingly beautiful. No doubt an extremely costly piece when it was created, this is of the quality the aristocracy of Europe would insist upon in their private chambers. Far from perfect, the very delicate lawn has a some loss on the front, and the back has a tear. This is a stellar piece of lace making history, it would be amazing framed, perhaps with the backing removed. A once in a life time find, beyond glorious to add to your antique linen and textile collection.
