"Lockets capture your personal story, special photos, love notes, inspirations. Become a story teller, wear your precious memories!" -Lidy Baars
Exceptional Museum Quality Irish Bog Oak Locket, circa 1878. This breathtaking beauty was entirely hand carved in Bog Oak, which is fossilized wood found in the peat bogs of Ireland and used for Mouring Jewelry in the Victorian era.Skillfully carved by a master carver, the locket is oval, with beautiful oval incised rings on the front as well as the back. On the top, a gorgeous sterling silver monogram, of a "T", with the ornamental design behind that perhaps meant to be an "A".
Gorgeous work, the design is just as relevant and stunning as it was in the 1870's. Matte Black in color, this locket has been lovingly cared for and treasured, it is one of the best and most rare pieces of mourning jewelry I have found in years. The perfect addition to your collection, or a luxurious gift for someone you love, the work on this piece was labor intensive and wonderful. The locket is rounded on the top and bottom, opens and closes extremely well, inside, a space for not only a photograph but also a memento, should you wish. Display with your treasures, or hang this from a chain or ribbon to wear with great joy. Locket measures 2~1/8" x 1~5/8".
