Stunning 19th century faience bowl or bol, made by Regout, Maastricht, in the 1800's. Petrus Regout (1801-1878) descended from a Maastricht merchant family active in glass and earthenware since the 17th century. Petrus Regout established the De Sphinx pottery in 1836. De Sphinx operated under the name Petrus Regout & Co. until 1899. This bowl is just beautiful, with rich warm colors, a stunning country cockerel {rooster} design, and ornate detailed banding on the inside.

Transfer printed, the bowl was then hand painted in rich shades of brown, russet, red, golden yellow, green, with a gleaming lustre glaze on the gold.  Hand painted rim and foot. Absolutely gorgeous, this is in fantastic condition, and a nice large size.  A very collectible beauty to add to your display of antique earthenware, to showcase in your collection of French country pieces.  Difficult to find a larger bowl like this without damages, this measures 6~1/2" w x 3~3/8"h.
