Glorious 19th Century French Gilt Madonna Crown from the mid 19th century. This beautiful Virgin Mary or Madonna crown from France was no doubt donated to the church by wealthy benefactor as a tribute to the Queen of Heaven. At that period the Virgin statues in France were dressed in rich robes with a glittering crown. Stunning large size, it graced the head of a nearly life-sized Madonna statue in a French church.
Beautiful gilded metal with stunning scrollwork, prong-set large ruby red jewel in the center with accents of glittering paste clear stones. Rarely seen ornamenting statues today in Catholic churches across France, each surviving crown is a special collectible part of French history, especially beloved by collectors. The band is adjustable.
