Authentic French hand carved wooden sabots, or clogs, made for a little girl. So charming, these were carved by a sabotier in the Basque region of France, these shoes were usually worn in rural France. Meant to be bought one size larger, so they could be stuffed with straw to keep little feet dry and warm.
In France children observed the approaching holiday by putting their sabots on the hearth for Père Noël to fill with gifts as he made his rounds on Christmas Eve. These little clogs have rich history and decorative craftsmanship. The broad scalloped strap is made of leather with "japanned" Black finish. There is wear only to the red paper labels inside, these have worn away over time as shown. Each petit shoe measures 8" x 2~3/4" x 3~1/4" h.
