Thornton Burgess {1874-1965} was a conservationist and author of children's stories who loved the beauty of nature and its creatures so much that he wrote about them for over 50 years. His newspaper column was titled "Bedtime Stories", he was known by some as the Bedtime Story Man. The author  tells the story from nature's point of view, as if the animals were telling the story.

This is a rare title to find, a lovely addition to your Antique Children's Book collection, but also wonderful if you love the sea and live in a {real or imaginary!} Beach Cottage. This book has stunning illustrations, 47 in color. Cloth covered hardboard cover has detailing in a Sea Green, with a colored plate, as you can see, the decades of children who read this book left the cover a little loose, and part of the plate is missing. Never mind that, if you love the old children's books, this one is a treasure. The title is in Gold gilt, the pages are clear and bright with occasional light soil, 336 numbered pages.  Measures 8" x 5 3/4".
