Breathtaking 19th century French Wedding Crown Display, or Globe de Mariée piece, dating to the Napoleon III period, ormolu and velvet, on a black ebonized wooden base. Stunning decorative addition to your collection, in wonderful condition. It is beautifully decorated with gilded Leaves, Flowers, Birds and beveled Mirrors that symbolize aspects of happiness and prosperity in a marriage .

The tradition of Globe de Mariée Display pieces began in France, in the 1800's- newlyweds in France would record the beginning of their married life by creating a wedding dome, to preserve their wedding souvenirs as well as tell the story of their wedding & life together. Placed prominently in the formal dining room, it held the Bride's Crown on a cushion & her Wax Floral Bouquet. The bride & groom chose items such as mirrors, porcelain pieces, and ormolu {gold plated} cut-outs. Each was a symbol that told the story of the bridal couple. The number of small diamond-shaped mirrors represented the number of children they hoped for.

    • The Bird: The symbol of Love and Peace in the home
    • Leaves: Longevity of the Marriage Union
    • Orange Blossom: Virginity
    • Roses or Daisies: Love
    • Diamond Shaped Mirrors: Fertility

This has the Bridal Tiara of wax flowers, the Groom's Corsage, a silk ribbon bow, and a portion of the Wax floral decoration that was used to decorate the altar in the church. I have never been able to find one of these with all three present.

  • Measures 16" h x 12" x 7".
