19th century French Wedding Crown Display Cushion, Napoleon III period, used either during the ceremony to display their wedding bands, or after to hold the bride's headpiece. Gilt and velvet pillow, on a black ebonized wooden base. Decorated with gilt leaves, flowers, birds and beveled Mirrors that symbolize aspects of happiness and prosperity in a marriage. Dates to 1870.

Traditional French Globe de Mariée displays preserved a couple's wedding souvenirs & tell the story of their wedding & life. Placed prominently in the formal dining room, it held the Bride's Crown, or Tiara, the bride & groom chose items for their personalized display:mirrors, and ormolu {gold plated} cut-outs. The number of small diamond-shaped mirrors represented the number of children the couple hoped for. Present in this piece:The Bird: The symbol of Love; Leaves: Longevity of the Marriage Union; Orange Blossom: Virginity; Roses or Daisies: Love; Diamond Shaped Mirrors: Fertility.
 
Includes the Bride's Bridal Tiara of millinery flowers & wax dipped buds, tied at the bottom with French silk ribbons. On the very bottom, two small gilt Lingerie pins, most likely worn by the bride on her wedding day. In very good antique condition, of note: The bird on the very top has discolored to a darker patina, two of the wooden feet are gone {just the central pin remains to hold the base level.} A stunning addition to your collection or the perfect beginning of one!
