Gorgeous Majolica Paté Tureen, in the shape of a country Partridge. Made for patémaker Caugant, who sold luxury delicatessen items in his shop in Bretagne from 1927 on. His son, Michel, introduced {and created} the figural paté forms to sell the more expensive patés in, so these are not for making paté. Highly collectible, the paté forms are so decorative, and are wonderful to display with your French Majolica collection.
This early terrine is a two part form, hand made, hand painted and then glazed, outstanding in coloration, and details. The top lifts off to reveal a shallow bowl to fill with paté, and serve to your guests. Signed by the artist, Michel Caugant, these terrines are very sought after by collectors. Ducks are most common, this partridge more rare to find. {In France, there is a yearly competition amongst terrine collectors to see who owns the most exquisite paté form that year!}
