Beautiful Antique French Classical Wooden Madonna in prayer, hand carved and painted. She is simply lovely, with her gorgeous patina due to several layers of paint. Carved by hand in the late 18th to early 19th century, she has a beautiful and serene countenance.
Her paint has loss, as shown, she would most likely have been displayed in a small provencal town church, and have been freshened up once every so often by a local artist as was the custom. Weathered, small losses and repairs. The base on which she stands is of a later date, and was painted at one time. Both the Madonna and the base have wear, and old worm holes. She will bring peace and a healing light.
