Petite Antique French Picture Frame Gilt Brass with Bow Filigree, in Empire style with a beautiful bow & laurel leaf crown. This small frame is square, but the photo opening is circular. Four decorative ribbon bows embellish the natural wood mat. Made of gilded bronze, the gold has mellowed over the centuries.
The wood has splits, I have left this as is, often dealers will paint the wood a color, but I love the unusual effect of the dark wood with the gleaming metal. Not perfect, the separate easel has disappeared over the last 150 years, but you can use the backing to stand this up on your desk. There is a hanging bale too.
