Antique French Pompadour Asparagus Plate, of glazed earthenware majolica, made in the late 1800's by Longchamp. Seven raised asparagus glazed in green with aqua tint and lavender lay across the center of the plate forming a deeper sauce well on either side. {for chopped hard-boiled eggs and butter!}

Lovely hand painted floral bouquets dance around the outer rims, each one is different, making each plate unique. These plates are mentioned in Maryse Bottero's book 'Artichauts et Asperge in Barbotine' on pg. 53. No maker's mark, not all the plates in this design had marks, but there is no doubt this is made by Longchamp. There is age appropriate craquelure to the glaze and some tiny wear to the outer edge. A stunner!

  • Measures 9-7/8".
