Antique Large Quadruple Silver Plate Wine Coaster made by Simpson H M & Co. In the 1900's. Founded in 1866 in Connecticut, they were famous for their fine quality quadruple plated silver especially with repoussé {embossed} designs. A stunning and rare to find huge champagne coaster, there are 14 sizes of champagne bottles.
Most likely made for the "Nebuchanezzer" 15 liter bottle {120 glasses!}of champagne. These days, it will also happily hold four regular bottles of your favorite champagne or wine. Silver over copper, the bacchus faces in the design and the laurel leaf wreaths have a golden glow here and there, which I actually love. Wear on the inside but nothing distracting. Marked on the bottom. A stunner.
